Jess has supported children with Sensory Processing Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, cerebral palsy, dyspraxia, Down syndrome, handwriting difficulties and a variety of other developmental challenges. She has a particular interest in early childhood and believes the early years of schooling are a critical foundation for lifelong learning. Jess values strong preparation, smooth transitions into school and supportive learning environments both at home and in the classroom. Parent education and life skills development are central to Jess’s approach. She enjoys working closely with families and educators to support children to become more independent and confident and finds great reward in seeing positive feedback from both parents and teachers as children progress socially, emotionally, academically and developmentally. Improving a child’s quality of life is at the heart of Jess’s therapy approach. She is passionate about supporting children to master new skills, regain function and build independence through purposeful and engaging therapy. Throughout the therapy process, Jess works collaboratively with families and schools to develop and implement home and school-based programs, including but not limited to equipment prescription, motor and developmental skill development, behavioural and anxiety management, handwriting programs and activities of daily living such as dressing, toileting, feeding and sensory programs. Jess believes Occupational Therapists specialising in paediatrics play a vital role in enhancing early childhood development, with impacts that extend from the classroom into the wider community. Jess is committed to ongoing professional development and has completed training in the Zones of Regulation, MORE protocol, Karen Stagnitti’s Learn to Play, Early Start Denver Model introductory course, Alert Program (How Does My Engine Run), Wilbarger Sensory Defensiveness training, DIR/Floortime approach and the Handwriting Without Tears program.
