Self Care for Mother’s

Posted By Jessica Roze-Polur

Since becoming a mum, I have realised just how important it is to prioritise self-care not only for my own health and wellbeing, but for my children and family too. It also means that we can be more attuned to our children, have more patience and connect with them. When our cups are full, we can provide more to our children and assist them through all of their emotions, especially the more difficult/challenging behaviours.

Setting Boundaries with Love

I recently completed a webinar called setting boundaries with love, it was facilitated by Stefanie L.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNymZRivuDs

This is a FREE webinar, and the focus teaches parents and carers how to establish clear, compassionate boundaries that nurture trust and connection in your parent-child relationship. Whether you’re navigating tantrums, conflict, screen time, or bedtime routines, this session will explore practical strategies for balancing discipline with empathy fostering mutual respect and empowering your child to thrive and equip you with tools to create a harmonious home while maintaining loving relationships.

SEEN - Documentary

There is a new documentary that has been shown, which is so incredible, and demonstrates the power of what parents can do to assist children and their futures.

The new documentary is called SEEN - https://seenthefilm.com

SEEN is a groundbreaking feature-length documentary that not only explores the transformative power of personal healing for parents but also delves into the scientifically supported effects of such healing on parenting and its impact on child brain development. The documentary delves into the scientific understanding of how a secure and emotionally healthy parent-child relationship impacts child brain development and well-being. "SEEN" aims to raise awareness about the importance of parental healing and encourage a bottom-up change in family dynamics, starting with individual healing and awareness.

Parenting & the Importance of Self Care

We are our children’s main teachers and model so many skills including self-regulation skills, emotional regulation skills, relationship dynamics, coping skills and the list goes on. Parenting can be so challenging because we are trying our absolute best, and although there are many times we might be tired, busy, unwell and worn out it is not selfish to look after yourself and the importance of it is often not spoken about enough. Sometimes we feel guilty for treating ourselves when we try to focus on our children and their needs, but I want to share the benefits and research of self-care and showing up for yourself as well as promote how really significant it is - because - you cannot give from an empty cup. It is such a great analogy to teach our children too/ showing a great example to them.

Prioritising self-care is vital for mothers, as it directly impacts their well-being, which in turn positively influences their parenting abilities and the overall development and well-being of their children.

Here's why self-care for mums is so important for their children:

  1. Improved Mental and Physical Health:

When mothers prioritize self-care, they are better equipped to manage stress, prevent burnout, and maintain their physical and mental health.

  1. Enhanced Parenting Skills:

A well-rested, healthy, and mentally stable mother is more likely to be patient, attentive, and emotionally available for her children.

  1. Positive Role Modelling:

Children learn by example, and seeing their mothers prioritize their own well-being can teach them the importance of self-care and self-love.

  1. Stronger Parent-Child Relationships:

When mothers are able to take care of themselves, they are better able to connect with their children, fostering a stronger and more positive parent-child relationship.

  1. Reduced Stress and Anxiety:

Self-care activities, such as exercise, relaxation techniques, or spending time with friends, can help mothers reduce stress and anxiety, which can then be passed on to their children.

  1. Better Outcomes for Children:

A mother's well-being has a direct impact on her child's development and well-being, both emotionally and physically.

  1. Increased Resilience:

Practicing self-care helps mothers build resilience, which is essential for navigating the challenges of motherhood and raising children.

  1. Self-Compassion:

Self-care encourages mothers to be kind to themselves and not to be too critical of their parenting, which can help them to be more confident and positive parents.

  1. Setting a positive example:

By prioritising self-care, mothers are modelling healthy habits for their children, teaching them the importance of taking care of themselves.
